Miracles

In the 1950s, two miracles were attributed to Saint Camilla Battista Varani. Saint Camilla’s two miracles came from a young child at Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia (1) and a man nearby in New Jersey (2). In April 1983, the Varani family was contacted by the Poor Clare Monastery in Camerino, Italy requesting signatures petitioning for the canonization of Saint Camilla Battista Varani. Thousands of signatures were gathered and sent to the Vatican.

Saint Camilla’s third miracle, which led to her canonization, took place in 1877: the cure of a girl named Celia Ottaviane from Camerino, who suffered from rickets. Saint Camilla’s cause for canonization was then delayed for about 100 years due to problems with the original postulator. The case was taken up again in 1998. On February 12, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI approved the authenticity of Saint Camilla’s third miracle. On February 19th, 2010, the canonization for Blessed Camilla was approved.
